The Sophia Bag.
I started it ages ago, bought the material at Easter. I finished it last Wednesday. The binding went on ok but the number of layers meant that getting close enough even with a zipper foot was tricky. The base was hard going and after breaking 4 machine needles on the trot I decided to hand sew it with double thickness thread. The zip went in first time and the handles were easy. I realise that to get the more ridged shape interfacing, fleecy interlining is needed but my machine was not happy with it.
I have added a picture to show a close up of the bag, (hopefully not all of the mistakes as well).
I am pleased that I had a go at this bag and my favourite fabric at the moment looks good with this shape. My hubby thinks it is great and I am going to enter it in next months U-Handbag Amy Butler monthly competition, but I do not think that it is one of my finest makes. What do you think?
Once my Battle of the Bag was over I then started my Christmas decoration which I am glad to say is going very nicely indeed, thank goodness!
I will post about the charity knitting tomorrow as I am away at the moment and using an Internet dongle so I have to watch how long I am on here.
Take care and pop back tomorrow evening after the Strictly Come Dancing results programme of course. Who are you hoping will win?

Well I think it's a lovely bag - I'm scared of bags. They're so ... complicated!
As for Strictly - Austin Healey, all the way ;-)

Want to make me one any time soon?!? Just kidding.
Your efforts definitely didn't do to waste. It looks fantastic.
well all your efforts were worthwhile cos it looks lovely and the fabric is gorgeous!!
i would like Cherie to win but have a feeling it might be Austin!!

The bag is lovely.
As for Strictly, I'm wavering between a few favourites, Cherie, Austin, Tom & Rachel - i really loved Rachel's dress!

The bag is gorgeous, clever lady. I've spent all afternoon fighting with my ancient sewing machine whilst tryng to make some lounge pants for Twiglet, grrrrrrr!!! I'm with Kitty on Strictly, Austin Healy to win for me too! I will miss Mark Fosters physique when he eventually leaves, if not his dancing:)

Good luck in the competition. I agree with your husband, your bag is great. Sorry, can't comment on Strictly, shock horror, I don't watch it! x
I have this pattern all cut out too.. for like 4 months.. time to get it done you think?? it looks soo hard its daunting and taunting me.. in to CRAZY land
I have just purchased this pattern and thought of making it for my Sister-in-Law for Christmas, after reading your post I'm having second thoughts now. Do you think it would look ok without the fleecy lining? I'm just making a wooly jacket and my machine is not liking the thickness of this material.
Your bag turned out lovely, even if it did cause you some troubles, now you know the ins and outs of it, you going to make another?
The bag looks good and it's such a pretty shape. I'd enter it in the competition - no-one else has to know that it was difficult. I was going to make one for my daughter for sleepover type visits - maybe I'll try a heavy-sew-in interlining seeing as how so many here seem to find the fleece difficult...
I'm sewing christmas decoration too.......
The bag looks WONDERFUL!
As usual... You do such amazing things!
