Easter WIP's

The Easter holidays have begun and boy am I glad that it has arrived.  My poor old hip is really complaining and as soon as my group has done their GCSE exam I am booking myself in for another cortisone injection!

Anyway, apart from a boot full of work,which is probably bulky more than quantity,  I also intend on completing a few projects which are on my To Do list.

First up are some family Easter Cards.  The one above is for Sophie and hubby and I will put some money inside.  Her Godmother has already given us an Easter Egg to pass on to her  and I do not like her being given too many and at 12 years old having a bit of extra pocket money will be appreciated, some of her felt tip pens have run out recently.  Sophie likes to decorate the house and she has already asked us about what Easter means and how it relates to the Bible and the story behind it, and I think hubby and I did quite well in answering her questions.  Sophie also likes to spend time at home and has turned down offers to go out too much.  A bit of a home bird at the moment and I am glad that she likes to spend time at home and with her Mum and Dad, we must be doing something right.

Next up is a card for my Mum which needs to go in the post tomorrow, and this has lots of flowers and colour on a square background.  Hope she likes it.

Today I made my holiday trip to the range and I am in the process of creating my March Monthly Challenge entry and I am determined to complete it in the right month this time!  I just needed some Acrylic paint in a colour which I had run out of.  I have signed up for the Hobbycraft Club, after three attempts at being told I could do it online, I was finally agreed with that you need to sign up in the SHOP to actually get your card!  Nearly a year I have been trying, anyway do it now.

Next in line is my Wizard of Oz scarf, some more crochet squares and finalising my first online pattern.  But what format should I have it in?  Paper or digital format?

It has been awful weather in Cornwall this weekend and seeing as Hubby is working in Plymouth tomorrow, Sophie and i are having a nail painting and card making session.  The last time we made cards during the Easter Holidays, hubby was working away and our crafting lasted 3 days!!  Sophie had cards for her friends for the next 12 months.

I hope whatever you plan to do tomorrow pans out well.

Easter Is Nearly Here!

I have been adding some more items to my Web shop here

I have also started to link some of the FREE templates and ideas to the section featured at the top of this blog.  

I am also in the process of converting the numerous projects and ideas that I have built up over the past two decades in to PDF templates or much bigger patterms which will also be on my website.

However, the new EU Vat laws will mean that I will need to email the pattern to you rather than having an instant download.

A). I can no longer do that without having to register as VAT.

B) this will add to the cost of selling the PDF which is not want I want to do at all.

C) to avoid getting in to bother I will manually email the PDF to the email that you send me.  Seeing as I do not go to bed much before midnight I think that I can cater for most time zones.!

I have also added a link to my new Instagram site which I have now fathomed out how to use.

Happy Easter Everyone! Spring is nearly here..........

Happy Easter everyone!
As usual it has decided to start raining but for the past two days we have been giving the garden a little TLC as we have not really done much to it over the past couple of years due to personal events going on.

My herb garden has been fending for itself since last summer and seems to have better green fingers than I do and is "blooming" so to speak!  Added some Basil to the box which we use a lot of.

A very healthy borage plant which is growing very well......but not where I planted it!

The bees and butterflies like it as well.

The Bees absolutely loves this japonica and it has flowered at just the right time.

The rest of this plant is still firmly in bud with little sign of any flowers just yet and then suddenly the above flower burst open!  It is still the only one to bloom but is it gorgeous.

More colour in the flower beds.

For-get-me-nots growing everywhere.  I know that some people see these as weeds but I love their little blue flowers.

The sun on the petals.

My apples trees which grow flat along the back fence, are also starting to bloom as well so hopefully the rain will not be too hard and knock them all off.

These were purchased yesterday and will all live in a patio pot over the summer.

We are hoping to have a summer where we can enjoy the garden and make it an extension of the house and spend much more time in it.

Last year was so much better than in previous years..........can we possibly hope for a repeat or even better?  At the moment I will just settle for dry.

Cats with Character

I was sat in my room at my SIL house changing my shoes when I could hear snoring!!  I appeared to be on my own.  I looked around and decided that perhaps it was coming from another room.  Hubby has been very unwell whilst we have been away.

Then I saw an ear twitching............

Well....you have possibly read the book "Cat in the Hat" well I have a Cat in a Bag!! 

Everyone had to come and have a look then we left him to finish his snooze.

Happy Easter!

I am still on my holiday, going home tomorrow.

It is raining here in Seaford, which is unusual for when we stay.  So I think a quiet day in is in order.  However, there is a chance to look t my SIL new sewing machine and help set it up for her.

You may see that I have finally decided to join up with Pinterest.  Had a bit of fun trying to get the button in the browser, I think I have succeeded and I have added some pictures, but no followers yet.  I think I started off with some but lost them somewhere! This is why someone else is sorting out my website for me!!  Otherwise I could spend months and months on it and still not get it to work.

I used some of my own images to learn how to pin and I am also looking at those on Pinterest.  The Moda Bake Shop images are a must to look at.

Well I think I had better go and do something before the day is done.

Easter Cupcakes

I do not really need much of a reason for making cupcakes, but the Easter Holidays is a good one.

I used the recipe that you can find in the margin to make the cakes themselves and added a little vanilla flavouring.
I found the largest nozzle for the icing on the top. I confess to using pre-made butter icing as I do not like the taste of adding icing sugar to butter, never have done.

I like to use Betty Crocker butter icing which you can find in any large supermarket or baking shop.

The larger nozzle gives a much fuller swirl on top of the cupcake. I really enjoyed doing this bit and was sorry when I ran out of cakes!!

The eggs came with an Easter egg that Sophie was given. Solid chocolate.
I always associate Easter with Spring and in turn with flowers, so the cupcakes needed some flowers.

Whilst at Hobbycraft I found some pastel icing in the speciality cake section, and using one of my cutters that is the size of a 1 pence piece, made some flowers.

Sophie and I hunted around and found several more flower cutters ( is this the start of an obsession?) and used different ones and added them in threes on the cupcakes. In the centre we put a little bit of glittery tube decoration used to decorate biscuits and there you have it. Easter baking.

We took them over to Grandma and Grandad.

Hope you all have had a good Easter, the weather here has been unbelievable, bright blue skies, very warm, sunny. Oh if only it was like this more often. But to have two weeks of this lovely weather is brilliant.

Back to work tomorrow! Three day week though.

Egg-tastic Fun

Remember these from last year?

Blog update: First batch of new cosies have now been listed at Folksy.

Well, I have been making some more these for the last few weeks, on and off, and I am listing them in my Folksy shop. Some are already there and I have taken pictures of some new ones today. I shall try and list these when I am watching Larkrise to Candleford tonight.

In my Folksy shop you can see last years versions if you click on the sold section. I do like making to order and if you see a colour scheme that you like or if you would like to place a special order, then now is the time to do it. If you live overseas you will need to give at least a week for these to get to you. So, the sooner the better. I will send these abroad even though that facility is not on my Folksy shop at the moment. It will take two seconds to swap it for you and make it a special order for an individual. Email me any questions if it is easier.

Easter Thoughts...

I wanted to do a quick little project with Year 7 just before Easter. I made this last year and ideas began to grow...

I think this idea was a combination of me and an article found in an issue of Crafts Beautiful. It is on a standard egg cup. I really like using felt and showing the group the basics of making felt could be included. It is quite good fun and everyone can take it in turns to have a go.

I then found a pattern for this little chicken in an old magazine which was passed onto me and the cover is missing. I am not so sure about this one as I like shapes that are straight forward to cut and could lend itself to being developed into other things. Sweet nonetheless though. Then came this little cutie....

Now, I have love this little cosy and this I found in another issue of Crafts Beautiful and I am going to develop this into other versions but the basic idea and shape would be ideal to use with the group. I think that the stuents will also be able to develope it into other ideas such as different shaped birds.

Once I had made the above and my sewing table was completely covered with felt I went and got some paper and cut out various shapes until I end up with this...

have designed, cut and pinned the felt ready to stitch next time. One l...I had fun with this egg shaped cosy, choosing the colours, using the scissors to make different shapes in the felt and stitching it together. I have not finished with this idea and I have many more rushing around in my brain, which may be why I have had a headache which then developed into a migraine, so I am struggling to type this at the moment.

I showed all of this to my group today and they were impressed with it and they wanted to have a go. There was one lad who thought that I was making it up that egg cosies existed and that it was a joke and it was not until the others backed me up that he started to believe me and as for tea cosies he thought that there was no such thing. So there is a young man who definitely went home having learnt something yesterday!

I am off to have a lie down! Back with more crafty feltyness soon, once my head has stopped throbbing!
