Locked Out.....But back again.

Typical......had time over the summer to blog more so I get locked out of my blog and have to try and fin the original passwrod etc.

Got it done and thought you might like to see a little video that I took at the beach in Seaford this summer.

First time I have added a video from my phone to not sure if it will actually wwork properly but lets give it a go!

Brisk Walk and Photographs

Sophie had a Geography test before half term and there was a question about what was the Seven Sisters.  Sophie  was the only person in her group who knew what it was.

So one of the To Do's during our visit was to go and visit the Seven Sister's in a position where we could take some photographs.

A very cold but sunny day and we stood on the cliffs and waited for the clouds to move and the sun to peek out.

It has been raining really heavily over the past few days and we managed to pick one of the muddiest paths.  Should have known considering there was no one else about!

The one we walked along was much worse than this but it is on my camera and as promised I am using my Samsung to blog with.

Sophie took lots of pictures from which she can select some to take into school on Monday.

A lovely day and this was topped off with a trip to Lewes on the way back.

Travelling back tomorrow but we have provisionally been pencilled in to visit in the Summer.

Something to look forward to.

A time to fish

On Friday we decided to try a little fishing on Seaford beach.  The last time we tried we did very well and caught enough for tea.

High tide and hubby was trying to keep his feet dry due to leaving his beach shoes in the car!

The waves were frequent and quite spectacular.

This is the first year that Sophie has really been able to have a go herself.  Always watched but actually doing it is much more fun.  Sophie is not quite so sure about the lug worms though!

A glorious day and the sound of the sea could easily lull you to sleep.

I keep me awake I decided to take some photos of interesting finds on the beach that I might be able to use next term.

Shapes, textures and colours.  Being a very pebbly beach shells are a bit thin on the ground but there are still some lovely things to photograph.

I do find seaweed a bit awkward as it never looks as good as it does in real life but the shapes and colours can be seen here.

Plus, of course, too many stones to decided which to take pictures of!

We did find a well rubbed oyster shell and since then we have found one that is even more interesting.

It was a lovely few hours just sitting, looking, helping, photographing and basically not rushing around.

Oh and the fishing?.....

We did not catch a single thing.

So we went off to the local fisheries in Newhaven and bought some to make a lovely home made Fish and Scallop Pie with the help if Delia Smith...............gorgeous it was.

Cats - and the things they do.......

Every day jobs that you and I would rather not do for a Cat suddenly becomes an.............

......opportunity to get involved and although he may not be much help with the ironing......

...my sister in laws Cat called Ray does appreciate a freshly warmed ironing board to snooze on when you are not looking!

He does have a partner in crime......his brother Dave.

You need to build up your strength before the next adventure.

Destination - Relaxation

Seaford, Sussex

We came at Easter for a much needed rest.  Much of this year has been quite stressful and sad both personally and job wise.  It is that time again when the Summer Holidays means that we swap the Cornish coastline for that of Seaford and surrounding countryside.

We may have swapped like for like but my husbands phone has not rung for 7 days!! A changer of scenery, people and weather is as good as a rest.  The weather here has been brilliant with only enough rain to keep the garden happy.  Lovely walks along the sea front after dinner, sunset pictures that I seem to only capture here and just plain getting away from it in the true sense.

Been here since Sunday and had a great time.

Monday we spent all afternoon looking in antique/junk/thrift shops. We are going back quickly tomorrow as we may have found the ideal gift.

Tuesday we visited Sissinghurst Castle which is now run by the National Trust and it was brilliant.

I need to do a separate post for this, there is much to tell.

Today due to a rain day we decided to go to the Cinema and watch "Brave" which Sophie loved!

Sophie loved every minute of it and still loves a soppy ending.  That's my girl!!

We the tried to book a bowling lane but all full so we went home to find that my sister in law was back from a few days away.  Sophie helped to make a chicken, cream and bacon sauce to go over Tolfie pasta and boy did this fill us up!!

Another long walk on the Sea front sorted us out them a glass or two of wine plus a lovely chat finished off another great day.

Holiday Snaps

Nearly half of the day had gone by before I realised that it was Friday 13th!  

It all started with an email finally deciding on the website name which was partly inspired by a comment left on my web naming post back in January so a prize will be issued soon to that person.  They have not commented since so I hope that I can track then down.

This was then followed by an Etsy order which I was able to pack and take to the Post office before the lunch time collection.

I then spent some time sorting out my supplies and handmade items for a craft fair that I have signed up for in May, only three weeks away plus a website opening, I hope I have enough items to go around!

Next came the sorting out and up loading of the last batch of Holiday Snaps at Seaford.  Thought you might like to see them.

My sister in law and her partner have an allotment in Seaford and grow some of the most fantastic home grown veg and fruit I have ever tasted.  I wish I had more time and better luck with this.  The first year of our vg patch was good but then I think that every slug in the neighbourhood heard about it and decided to take up residence in our garden!!

We are seriously looking at converting it to cut flowers (the bees and butterflies will love it) and try some veg in containers and stick to just a few bits and pieces.

It was a glorious sunny day when we visited it to collect some veg for dinner.

A walk along the beach at Seaford is always a must.  Even in bad weather it is enjoyable.  Here is where the Kittiwakes birds live, on the cliff face where they build their nests.

I have never seen the tide out so far before and many hidden items from the past could be seen.

I have always been able to get a good sunset picture in Seaford too and this only a couple of minutes after the first photo shown was taken.

Lobster pots and fishing boats are moored on the pebble beach and on this walk we saw a small boat go out and place some lobster pots and haul the boat back up the beach using a special  winch.  Sophie was fascinated by this.  It even managed to stop her looking for "special stones" on the beach.

Hubby is not feeling very well and has gone to work only to come home and literally collapse because he is so tired.  Not like him at all.  

We always finding visiting Seaford very relaxing and at a time when my life is still upside down and has been since last September  that it was a break that I really did not want to come home from.

However, it will still be there to go back to.

Cats with Character

I was sat in my room at my SIL house changing my shoes when I could hear snoring!!  I appeared to be on my own.  I looked around and decided that perhaps it was coming from another room.  Hubby has been very unwell whilst we have been away.

Then I saw an ear twitching............

Well....you have possibly read the book "Cat in the Hat" well I have a Cat in a Bag!! 

Everyone had to come and have a look then we left him to finish his snooze.

Seven Sisters Sheep Sanctuary

This post will be full of a ridiculous amount of cuteness!  Are you ready?

Yesterday we visited the Seven Sisters Sheep Sanctuary and there we found many lambs which had only been born a couple of days ago.  One was born that morning but the Ewe was understandably very wary so no picture was taken.

The above lamb is a day old.   Ahhh!

This little lamb was very keen to see who we were and was typically the black sheep of the group.

Some of the lambs were very wobbly on their feet and others were literally jumping up and down like they had been fitted with springs in their hooves.. Spring has certainly sprung.  The weather was also very good to us and the sanctuary was very busy.

This cheeky sheep is a milker and it was not clear why it was in the shed along with lambs and their mums but this sheep loved all of the attention!

This lamb was several days old and was so interested in what was going on around him. a good coat starting to grow as well.

We also saw some sheep with rather ornate horns some had been removed I presume for safety reasons.  They looked quite heavy to be carried around.  This one posed rather well I thought.

We ten moved into another room which had large bags of sheep fleece with the names of the different breeds written down.

Also a rather splendid spinning wheel.  I had a go on one of these when I took a group to Cold harbour Mill  in Devon a couple of years ago.  Tricky to use but could easily become addictive.

Bags and Bags of fleece.  I was hoping that I might be able to buy a bag for my GCSE Textiles group to see and try out some hand spinning, but this was for display only.

This display showed a bit of hand spinning, unfortunately I could not get very close but it was interesting to read.

Then behind me was this weaving loom.  Again, much more could have been made of this but it was fascinating to see the much coarser and thicker sheep fleece being woven.

The shop had very little that  felt was related to the sheep there.  Some mini weaving looms would have been a good idea.  Sophie spotted a pom pom sheep keyring.  It was great to see so many young lambs and Sophie had never seen them that young before and the word cute was used constantly.  A good few hours out.  You could take your own lunch and spend a day there as picnic tables and a large grass area had been cordoned off for families to use.

A lazy day today as hubby is not very well at all and my SIL partner has a bad cold and the rest of us are so tired from work and school.  Sometimes I wonder if breaks and holidays are good for you after all!

I did manage to finish another WIP yesterday evening which I shall post about tomorrow.

London Science Museum Summer Visit

That would be Summer 2011 that I am referring to.  I was going through my Picassa file and noticed that I had not posted about our visit to London.  For the past few summers we have been visiting my sister in law in Seaford and if we can a trip to London has to be done.  We live in Cornwall to it is quite a distance to manage otherwise.

So off we went on the train and first visited the Natural History Museum to mainly look at the Egyptian exhibits because Sophie was doing a project on them in the September.  Then it was off on the underground to ..............

..........the Science Museum above.

We just wanted to see it all, but there was one exhibition there which really interested me and is not normally there.

An exhibition on how the fashion industry is trying to combat landfill and recycling of fabrics and other materials.

There was a lot of information about possible new fabrics of the future.  I hope you can see the text as I did not have a notebook with me, tut tut!

This dress was really eye-catching and I had to really think where I would start to actually put this together.

It looked even better in the flesh.

I did manage to take pictures of some of the information posters which explained some of the garments.

This is a message that I cover as part of my lessons.

It was only a small exhibition and it was a pity that it was not publicised more but Sophie was very interested in what she saw.  The next generation needs to be well informed.  Roll next Summer as i think we would like to try the Art galleries next.
