Regular readers will know that I teach GCSE Textiles and I do feature some of my students work here. To end the year they were making a quilted cushion cover to use up any leftover fabric from making their bags earlier in the year. Above is the example which I was making along side them which I only fully finished last week.I do have another panel ready for next year! Unfortunately due to other things going on at school we did not fully finish them but we will start the beginning of Year 11 by completing them. However, one student was having a very good week and actually finished hers...
Most of the students only had two, maybe three fabrics to use and this added to the challenge as they figured out a design using large graph paper and colouring pencils. There was even a little swapping of fabric between a couple of them which was rather nice. I will post the rest in September when they are finished and then it is onto their exam work.
They have really enjoyed planning and making these cushions and were surprised what could be achieved with so little fabric. Some have expressed an interest in using patchwork and quilting for their exam. So these skills are definitely alive and kicking in my classroom!

These are wonderful skills they are learning and for some of them the love of 'creating' will be with them for life. My daughter has just made a felted wall hanging in 2D art.
