London visit 2012

For the first full day of our holiday we were up bright and early and hopped on the train to Lewes then changed for a train to St Pancras International Station.  The is a massive Olympic sign hanging up and I guess that this is likely to be the first thing that many competitors will see as it is right in front of the platform where the Eurostar arrives.
The weather was very mixed and started off well.  My sister in law, Sophie and hubby's Aunt were going on the London Eye.  I have been twice before and hubby went last time and as it costs quite a bit we passed and had a walk along the south bank instead.
You can certainly see more of the London Eye before the leaves burst out on the trees.  Got most of it in this picture.
It did start to rain a bit and the skies went soooo black...........
so this picture is a bit dark but it started to blow over.
Now we decided to split up and Sophie, Hubby and I decided to go and see the British Design Exhibition 1948 - 2012 at the Victoria and Albert Museum and my SIL and Aunt went to see the David Hockney exhibition.
We walked over the bridge to get to our underground station..........
and Big Ben is not as big as it may look!
A bit more rain so we quickened up.
We arrived at the V&A to discovered that it would cost £24.00 to enter the Exhibition but we had come a long way and paid.  We took our time.  No photography and too many supervisors means that I have nothing to show you to tempt you to visit yourself.  There was such a variety of items, over 300 I think the write up stated.  I do have a few bits that I got in the museum shop which is not the same thing but I shall take some pictures tomorrow, we did not get back until 10.25pm and a bit tired.
The Grahpics, fashion, photography etc were so massive n this exhibition and yet it is these very areas which people such as myself are struggling to keep going.  These subject areas are being lost even in schools which I am sure will have a knock on affect to higher education and having exhibitions such as this one is going to be hard to put on in the future.  Will there be much in the way of design in another 62 years?

This is a very hot topic with me as I wait to hear if my subject will carry on next year or not.  Watch this space, I am really worried and it is ruining my holiday but I need to try and forget about it for a couple of weeks.
We rounded off the day by having a lovely meal at Carluccio's at the Station.
It is on the balcony near the Eurostar platform.
We had a table in the back corner and the food was fantastic and we ate plenty but not too much.  A train journey home was all we could manage really.
We are not sure what we will be doing tomorrow, but maybe a bit of a lie in perhaps.
xx

Nice trip, visiting London is on my "must do" list...some day!
Our local school has cut many programs. The sewing room is closed. Lets hope the private sector keeps sewing and the like going. Here in the U.S. TV shows like Project Runway got people intersted again in design and sewing but the show has had its troubles the last few years.
